I will try to list all homework for the week on the newsletter that I send home at the beginning of the week.  This homework is not meant to be “busy work. It is meant to be a bridge between school and home so that the knowledge your child gains in school can be practiced independently at home. At the first grade level, students are expected to spend 10-15 minutes each night doing some sort of homework, even if nothing specific has been assigned. (This can be things like flash cards, word cards, sentence writing, spelling words, Math concepts, or anything else upon which your child may need extra reinforcement.)  In addition, your child should be reading for 5-10 minutes each day because reading aloud in this grade is so important. I will provide "bag books" for Monday and Tuesday, and the basal reading book story for Wednesday.   Continuing this year will be our Simple Solutions Math Program, in which your child will complete a page of 10 math problems each night, Monday through Thursday.
