English- Nouns, Pronouns, Adjectives, Adverbs, Verbs

-          Writer’s Workshop three days per week

-          Daily practice of writing skills

-          Essay writing- Narratives, Research, Persuasive, Informative, How-to

-          Improving public speaking through demonstrations, sharing their writing

Social -    Studying the five regions of the United States and their         

Studies    geography, environment, culture, and history

-          Learning about the state of Illinois

-          Learning the 50 states and capitals (not all at once!)

-          Projects on various time periods in U.S. history

Reading-   Reading different reading genres while covering the five components

of Reading-Fluency, comprehension, Phonemic Awareness, Vocabulary and Decoding.

-           Response to Intervention Program to monitor reading skills three times weekly

Spelling- Weekly spelling lists that include words from the reading series

                and a few challenging words as well

-          Pretests are usually on Mondays and final tests on Fridays

-          Daily practice of spelling words through the workbook pages and spelling games

Science-  Topics that include both life science and physical science

-          Animals, Matter, Magnetism and Electricity, Weather, The Human Body Systems, Earth’s Land and Resources

-          Regular experiments that offer a “hands-on” chance to learn

-          Science Lab beginning in February

-          Group work that encourages cooperation

Math- The Basics- addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division

-          An extension of the operations- double digit mult., long division

-          Working with larger numbers

-          How to become great problem solvers

-          Measuring money, time, length, capacity

-          Graphing and Data

-          Geometry

-          Applying math to real life situations every day!
