Welcome to Maternity's Junior High Language Arts Program
6th * 7th * 8th

Language Arts curriculum will strive to increase your child’s proficiency in English, Vocabulary, Speech, and Writing. The use of laptops in the Junior High Classroom has been a GREAT SUCCESS. The students are readily able to access current assignments, take notes, do research, complete assignments, and check both weekly and daily assignments given by their teachers.

I have been an educator for many years and have a Bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and a Master’s degree from Olivet Nazarene University. I enjoy reading, writing and traveling. I am very fortunate to have my grandchildren not only near me, but at Maternity as they share in the joys of a Christian education.

Assignments for: March 8th-12th

We are looking forward to a very exciting year as we have made some changes in our junior high Language Arts curriculum and I feel that it will be very beneficial to the students.  We have a whole language program that will include: English, Writing, Literature, Accelerated Reader Program, Novel reading, and  Literature based vocabulary.  Another new addition is a study hall for all students built into their daily schedule.  This should definitely help in getting a lot of their homework done before the end of the day.  Please remind your student to CHARGE their computers every evening so that they will be useful throughout the day.

Our third and final  trimester continues with Language Arts/grammar  and Literature/novel study. The students have done an excellent job their first and second  trimester and need to continue to work hard  and complete their assignments on time.  In English we will continue to work from out textbook, continue with composition writing and create some poetry.  In Literature, we will continue our novel study and our vocabulary study will be literature based. Students will continue with their required AR reading on an independent basis, each trimester they are required to have 20 AR points and may also get an additional 20 points for 100 extra credit points in their literature grade.

See 8th grade Language Arts and 8th grade Literature for specific assignments.
